Creative Contracts takes existing contracts, simplifies and restructures them and turns them into comic books. This way, all parties understand what is expected of them and what their rights are.

Growing up in South Africa, Creative Contracts founder Robert de Rooy has always been faced with a fundamentally unfair system that is designed to benefit the rich, powerful and educated. Contracts are a central driving force to this inequality. Uneducated, poor and displaced people are the ones who are systematically disadvantaged because they cannot understand what they are forced to comply with.

While illiteracy rates in South Africa have dropped dramatically over the past 30 years, in 2015 UNESCO still recorded over 2 million South Africans who had never learned to read or write.

Instead of making these people sign a contract they cannot read or force them to expose their vulnerability by asking for help, Creative Contracts aims to offer clarity and transparency to put some of the power back into the hands of the people at the bottom of the pyramid.

To date, over 3.000 people have signed a Creative Contract for jobs, housing, insurance, banks, school and much more. Contracts understood by all parties, encouraging healthy and successful relationships across the board.
