People constantly stop us in the street, send us voice messages and slide into our DMs with one question:
How is it possible that you offer such a complete solution for such a low price?
The only possible answer to that question is our team. Because, boy, do we have an awesome group of people working on the SignRequest service. Get to know our business better by meeting the individuals behind it. Today: Daan, our Royal Guard of Process.

As a young and fast developing business, every new addition to the team is palpable. This was certainly no different when Daan came on board. Before he joined we were a group of people overflowing with ideas but no clear structure of how to implement these. Daan took us by the hand and taught us all about structure and process. What a concept! As a true “Groninger” (Groningen is a province in the north of the Netherlands) he is ever grounded, maintaining a bird’s-eye view. So next to his job as a SignRequest developer he is our Royal Guard of Process.

What made you decide to come work for SignRequest?

I really like the phase SignRequest is in now and the challenges that brings. The development team and the customer base is growing. With my experience at bigger companies, I hope to help SignRequest to streamline that process. So far it’s been awesome being a part of it.

What is your specific role within SignRequest?

Besides typing in python code I also organize the refinements, standups and sprint planning. We work in sprints of two weeks. We plan what needs to happen in the next two weeks and divide the tasks. The standups are meetings in which everyone gives a short recount of what they’re working on and how it’s going.

What does your day-to-day look like?

Because I live in Groningen and SignRequest is based in Amsterdam I commute a lot. Luckily there is a solid train connection and I’m good at working on the train. I leave home at 6:30 am every morning and get back around 6 pm so I can have dinner with my family.

What is so important about guarding the process to you?

With a proper process, you manage expectations of business, developers and customers. This allows us to bring the product to a higher level every day. That’s the ultimate goal.

What do you bring to the table that makes you irreplaceable for the team?

My goal is that I AM replaceable. I don’t want to create software that is only maintainable by me. I want to be able to go on holiday without having to worry about work and I’d rather not have to fix any problems when I’m about to fall asleep. Other people need to be able to understand my code for when I’m not available. I also hope to achieve this in my management tasks.

When do you feel you have had a great day?

When I’ve delivered a feature and I’m confident my solution was the best possible solution out there.
